C02 bottle explosion leaves two dazed, but un-injured
What an N2 tank looks like when intentionally overfilled to burst.
The Herald News in New Jersey is reporting an incident where a C02 tank exploded while two kids were cleaning a paintball gun in their bedroom. No one was injured, but the "explosion" caused a severe amount of damage and was reportedly heard a block and a half away.
According to news reports, Ryan Rodriguez, 18, and Michael Balistrieri, 15, were cleaning their equipment when a tank sitting on their bed, which was just filled at ABC Paintball in Paramus, exploded.
The explosion left a gaping whole in the wall and was reportedly so powerfull that parts of the door was blown off, shards of the bottle stuck in the ceiling. The bottle rocketed out of the room, down the stairs, and smashed furniture into "pieces" and caused "screws from around the room [to come] out of the sheetrock".
"It was so loud that it sounded like a bomb went off," the report quoted Ryan's mother Linda Rodriguez as saying. "They were white as ghosts and just sat there with these stunned looks on their faces."
There is no word on whether the tank was overfilled, or the bottle and/or valve was defective.
Luckily the two boys suffered no injury other than ringing ears for a few days, but they have vowed never to play paintball again.
